| Commissioner of Police The Commissioner of Police is responsible to the Governor for the overall management and performance of the Royal Cayman Islands Police Service. The Commissioner directs a force of some 450 uniformed and civilian staff with policing duties that are fully national in scope, including marine and air capability. The force serves a modern and diverse society which is proud of its Caymanian traditions and has become home in recent decades to people from more than 100 nationalities. As a rapidly developing society, the Cayman Islands have not been immune to crime trends experienced by larger jurisdictions. The successful candidate will combine the experience, judgement and cultural awareness needed to assess local crime and security issues together with the leadership skills, technical expertise and personal drive required to apply 21st century policing methods to them. The successful candidate will have proven ability to direct policing operations in an ethnically diverse community through a diverse police force. He or she will have the strategic vision to design “Policing Plans” based on clear public input and to deliver and account for them transparently to the public. This will call for a new emphasis on performance management and a performance culture throughout the RCIPS. An excellent track record in delivering change management, countering serious crime, and building citizen confidence is therefore desirable. The successful candidate will also have the opportunity to contribute to a number of significant initiatives already underway, including the establishment of an Independent Police Complaints Authority and the revision of the Police Law and Regulations.
